NFB documentary The Apology, written and directed by Toronto-based filmmaker Tiffany Hsiung, is to receive a 66-screen theatrical release in South Korea. Seoul-based distributor AK Entertainment acquired the film on a five-year deal at the 2016 Busan Contents Market and the film will be released in the South Korean theatre chain CGV Cinemas, as well as local art cinemas across the country.

AK Entertainment also picked up the distribution rights for mainland China. Produced out of the NFB’s Ontario studio by Anita Lee, the film went on to make its world premiere at Hot Docs in 2016. The film documents the story of three women who were kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. On the Canadian broadcast front, TVO holds the TV rights and will begin airing the doc next month.

Bell Media SVOD CraveTV has picked up the exclusive Canadian rights to gangster series Snatch. Based on the film of the same name, the hour-long, 10-part series will debut April 7 on Crave. The Sony Pictures Television series stars Rupert Grint (Harry Potter), and Dougray Scott (Fear the Walking Dead) and is executive produced by writer and showrunner Alex De Rakoff.

Distribution 360
Toronto’s Distribution360 has acquired the Canadian and international rights to stop-motion animated English-language series George and Paul (26 x 5 minutes), produced by Netherlands-based Pedri Animation. The marblemedia-owned company will be introducing the pre-school series to buyers at MIPTV next month. In addition, D360 acquired season two of the kids live-action series The Mystery Files, from Apartment 11 Productions. The Mystery Files is a series commissioned by TVO.
