Entertainment One has sold CTV original drama Cardinal in multiple countries across Europe.

The series, produced by Sienna Films and eOne in association with CTV, has been licensed to BBC in the U.K., C More in Scandinavia and Calle 13 in Spain. The six-episode hour-long crime series is the first Canadian drama to air on BBC Four, according to a BBC release.

Cardinal‘s Jan. 25 premiere on CTV drew an average audience of 1.3 million, making it the highest-rated debut of a Canadian series this year. Starring Billy Campbell (The Killing) and Karine Vanasse (Revenge), the drama follows two detectives as they attempt to track down a murderer in Northern Ontario.

eOne, which handles the international rights for the series, began screening the series to buyers in early 2016 at events in London, MIPTV and at the L.A. screenings in May. It will next screen during at Drama Series Day on Feb. 13 in Berlin, along with Mary Kills People. Drama Series Day is a joint initiative between the European Film Market and the Berlinale Co-Production Market to introduce buyers to international series.

CTV greenlit Cardinal in 2015, and filming began across Ontario last February.

The series is produced with the financial participation of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, the Canada Media Fund and the Cogeco Program Development Fund, and with the assistance of the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit. eOne handles international rights. The series airs on  Super Écran in French Canada.
