Lohman to star in new Egoyan pic

Toronto – Atom Egoyan has tapped Big Fish and Matchstick Men star Alison Lohman as the female lead for his next and recently retitled feature Where the Truth Lies. Lohman will play opposite Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth as a reporter who looks into the mysterious past of a famed comedy duo.

‘It’s a tricky role,’ says Egoyan, ‘a person who’s been told since she was 12 that she’s brilliant and, now, in her early or mid-20s, has to convey that history that belies her age.’ Shooting in Toronto, L.A. and London starts Aug. 30.

Egoyan and producer Robert Lantos changed the pic’s title from Somebody Loves You to match that of the source novel. Where the Truth Lies is a Canada/U.K. copro between Lantos’ Serendipity Point Films and First Choice Film. Sean Davidson

Hank Williams shoots in Alberta

Peace River, AB – First-time feature director and writer Aaron James Sorensen just wrapped on Hank Williams First Nation, starring Gordon Tootoosis (Reindeer Games). Produced by Sorensen’s Peace Country Films, the $500,000 film went to camera in March and wrapped in June for a total of 26 shoot days, primarily in the northern Alberta town of Peace River and on the Woodland Cree First Nation reserve, with additional days in Edmonton, Montana and Utah.

Hank was produced entirely through private financiers, of which the Woodland Cree First Nation was a major contributor. Sorensen says the film will hit the festival circuit next year.

Vancouver-based DOP C. Kim Miles lensed the story, which follows a young man and his great uncle on their voyage to visit the grave of Hank Williams in Montgomery, AL. Additional cast includes Jimmy Herman (North of 60), Stacy DaSilva (Dreamkeeper) and Bernard Starlight. Warren Langford and Sorensen are currently editing in Calgary. Laura Bracken
