ACTRA has named Saskatchewan-born actor Kim Coates as the recipient of the 2017 National Award of Excellence.
The actor will receive the award, which recognizes outstanding contributions by Canadian performers, at a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Jan. 28, 2017.
Coates’ big-screen career spans 35 years and more than 50 films, including Waterworld, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Goon, Silent Hill, Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor. His TV credits include Sons of Anarchy (FX) and The Outer Limits (ABC).
Coates also stars in the Jay Baruchel-directed Goon sequel, Goon: Last of the Enforcers, which will be released in summer 2017 through eOne, as well as the Netflix series Godless, also scheduled for release next year.
Previous winners of ACTRA’s Award of Excellence include Neve Campbell, Leslie Nielsen, Lloyd Bochner, Tonya Lee Williams, Kiefer Sutherland, Sandra Oh, Eugene Levy, Bruce Greenwood and Jason Priestley.
