The Canada Media Fund has distributed $3 million across 11 projects in its Diverse Languages Program, including funding to Italian, Mandarin, Persian and Spanish-language titles.
In the latest round of funding, which is for productions not in English, French or Aboriginal languages, 10 projects received money for their TV and digital media components, while one of the projects solely received TV funding.
Among the projects receiving both TV and digital media funding were ECG Productions’ historical doc That Trojan Jazz ($299,206), Big Bad Boo Studios’ children’s series Lili & Lola ($300,000) and Telelatino Network’s one-hour doc 180 Grados Norte ($189,461).
Five other Telelatino projects received funding in this latest round, with one-hour Italian-language TV program Guglielmo Marconi: Il Mito di Signal Hill ($299,820), doc Los Primeros Hispanos ($300,000), one-hour Spanish drama Mañana Cualquiera ($297,438), Spanish live-action kid’s series Mi Nombre es Ripley ($297,807) and Spanish-language doc Soñador: El Camino de Ismael Cala ($300,000) also receiving funding.
New Realm Film and Video meanwhile received funding for two of its Mandarin-language projects, with the fourth season of Big Shorts ($268,903) and behind-the-scenes news series News Detox ($268,879) both receiving TV and digital media funding.
Nanda Production House also received $78,486 for its Punjabi-language TV series Toronto Legal.
