NBC invests in Copper

NBC Universal has inked a deal with E1 Entertainment for the global pay-TV rights to Copper, the Toronto producer announced on Tuesday.

The deal — for 13 one-hour episodes — excludes Canada, the U.S., France and Germany. The Canuck drama follows the lives of five young rookies just out of the police academy. It is slated to air on ABC and Global Television, though airdates are unconfirmed.

E1 will shop the Toronto-shot series at MIPTV next month, where leading actors Missy Peregrym (Reaper, Heroes) and Gregory Smith (Everwood) are expected to attend. The drama also stars Enuka Okuma (24) and Eric Johnson (Smallville).

Copper is exec produced by Ilana Frank (Would Be Kings) alongside E1’s Noreen Halpern and John Morayniss, while Tassie Cameron (Flashpoint) is showrunner and head writer.
