Entertainment One has sold the international rights to Designated Survivor to Netflix for all territories outside of North America. The series, which is produced by Mark Gordon Company and ABC, made its world premiere on U.S. net ABC and Bell Media’s CTV on Thursday. Outside Canada and the U.S., Designated Survivor has been made available to Netflix users in every country the streamer operates. Created by David Guggenheim and starring Kiefer Sutherland, the series began shooting in Toronto in July. Entertainment One handles international sales on the series.
BBC Worldwide
BBC Worldwide North America has inked a factual content deal with Accessible Media-owned channel AMI-tv, which provides programming for people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf, or hard of hearing. Under the deal, BBC Worlwide North America will provide AMI-tv with 50 hours of unscripted content, including David Beckham: For the Love of the Game and 24 Hours on Earth. The deal was negotiated between AMI-tv’s director of programming Brian Perdue and BBC Worldwide North America’s content sales executive Brad Horvath.
Sinking Ship Entertainment
Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) and B.C.’s Knowledge network have both picked up the broadcast rights to season four (10 x 30-minutes) of Sinking Ship Entertainment series Giver. The fourth season, which is set to premiere in 2017, will see children volunteering to help build a 50,000 square foot playground.
Media Ranch
Montreal-based Media Ranch has inked a linear TV and digital deal with U.S. metal band Steel Panther. Media Ranch is currently developing a scripted series based on the band’s exploits. The Montreal producer will also be shopping the series at MIPCOM, where Steel Panther will also play an acoustic set to invited members of the international TV industry.
Wild Kratts
Toronto-based 9 Story Media Group has sold the broadcast rights for hit animated series Wild Kratts to Chinese national broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV), and secured new digital sales and a licensing agent for the IP in the territory. Read more here.
