Thema launches nature channel in Canada

The pay TV distributor has launched a French-language hunting and fishing channel available now through Cogeco.

Seasons, a new French-language nature channel, is now available in Canada.

Thema, a Canal+ company that distributes payTV channels to cable operators, launched the hunting, fishing and nature channel in Canada this week.

The channel is distributed by Cogeco and beginning in October, it will be available on Bell Fibe TV, CCAP and Sogetel.

Seasons will tailor its programming to the, well, seasons, and will broadcast 100 hours of hunting and fishing shows, plus documentaries and magazine-style programming. Seasons programming director Rémi Castaing told Playback Daily that the channel is looking to purchase more Canadian-specific content and is open to working with Canadian producers on hunting and fishing programming.

Programming that has been announced to date includes Terroirs, which highlights the lives of men and women who pass down their regional traditions; Chasses au Pluriel, which focuses on environmentally responsible hunting practices; and Peches Modernes, which reveals new fishing techniques and innovations.

Thema also distributes the Planète+ channel in Canada through Vidéotron, Telus and Cogeco.
