Brault wins Prix Jutra-Hommage

Organizers of the Prix Jutra have named veteran DOP and director Michel Brault as the 2005 recipient of the Prix Jutra-Hommage in recognition of his five decades of filmmaking. Brault joined the French documentary studio at the National Film Board in 1956, where he was one of the pioneers of the cinema-direct style. His films include Les Raquetteurs, codirected with Gilles Groulx; Pour la suite du monde and L’Acadie, l’Acadie, both codirected with Pierre Perrault; and the 1974 feature Les Ordres, a winner at Cannes and the Genie Awards.

Brault won the Prix Albert-Tessier in 1986 and the Governor-General’s Award in 1996.

The seventh Soirée des Jutra will be broadcast live on Feb. 20 on ARTV and Radio-Canada.
