Mockery from Mochrie

Colin Mochrie stole the show at the ACTRA Toronto Awards, accepting the award of excellence from last year’s winner, Peter Keleghan.

‘When you look back at the recipients, you’ll realize they’ll pretty much give this award to anyone,’ Mochrie quipped, getting a laugh from the 1,100 attendees at upscale nightspot The Carlu. The comic later added, ‘Whether or not I deserve this award, it’s too late to do anything about it.’

Mochrie was tapped for the honor late last year, ample time to think up a few zingers, while the three other winners of the evening were less deadpan when delivering their acceptance speeches.

Julie Lemieux tearfully accepted the prize for best voice work for her role as Fuzzy Snuggums in the Nelvana animated series Spliced, while K.C. Collins had to pause partway through thanking his family upon winning best male performance for his turn in the miniseries Guns. Later, Kathleen Munroe gushed excitedly upon taking best female performance for her work on Flashpoint.
