Toronto’s Yowza Animation helped bring a beloved cartoon character to life in the feature Fat Albert, a Christmas release from Twentieth Century Fox that has earned more than US$47 million at the box office.
Yowza participated in a 10-minute traditionally animated sequence featured in the film, after which the characters from Bill Cosby’s 1970’s kids series pop out of a TV screen and into the real, modern world.
Currently Yowza is collaborating with Disney on an upcoming direct-to-video feature film. The shop is involved from the animation stage through to the final compositing on two elaborate dance sequences.
On the digital side, Yowza’s visual effects division, Switch VFX, is currently in production on the HD Vegas gambler drama series TILT for ESPN as well as on the title sequence for Whiskey Echo, a Barna-Alper copro mini for CBC. *
