Married… with bullets

Toronto – The indie picture .45 has set up shop at Toronto Film Studios, pairing Milla Jovovich (the Resident Evil franchise) with Stephen Dorff (Alone in the Dark) as a husband-and-wife team of small-time crooks living in 1970s New York. The story comes from director Gary Lennon (Drunks) and is produced by Geyer Kosinski (Beyond Borders) and Tucker Tooley (A Man Apart) for U.S.-based Junction Films. Andie MacDowell and Angus MacFadden also star. Sean Davidson

The Lead-ing man

Toronto – Antonio Banderas and first-time feature director Liz Friedlander will cut a rug for New Line Cinemas in the dance drama Take the Lead, set for a two-month stay at Toronto Film Studios. Banderas plays a dance instructor (here’s hoping he doesn’t sing) working with inner-city kids in New York, borrowing from the life of acclaimed ballroom pro Pierre Dulane. Diane Nabatoff and Chris Godsick produce, and Armand Leo is production manager. Dulane’s story was also told in the 2005 doc Mad Hot Ballroom, recently picked up by Paramount Classics. Sean Davidson
