Following Fantasia Film Festival’s Frontieres coproduction market, five U.S. and Canadian companies have pacted to release a series of horror-focused anthology feature films for both markets.
The deal, forged between Raven Banner, Indiecan Entertainment, Unstable Ground, horror magazine Rue Morgue and L.A.-based distributor Uncork’d Entertainment, will see the companies create films curated from the Toronto-based short film festival Little Terrors. The horror-based festival is jointly operated by Rue Morgue and Toronto prodco Unstable Ground.
Minutes Past Midnight will be the first release to emerge from the partnership, receiving a limited theatrical release in October, before heading to VOD on Oct. 18 and then to DVD on Feb. 5, 2017. The film is comprised of nine short films from directors Robert Boocheck, Lee Cronin, Francisco Sonic Kim, Ryan Lightbourn, Marc Martinez Jordan, Kevin McTurk, James Moran, Christian Rivers and Sid Zanforlin.
The concept for the anthologies, which will be produced by Indiecan Entertainment, Unstable Ground and Rue Morgue, was devised by Little Terrors founder Justin McConnell and Indiecan founder Avi Federgreen.
In the U.S., films will be released through Uncork’d Entertainment and Indiecan. In Canada, Raven Banner and Indiecan will partner to release the films.
The deal was negotiated by Unstable Ground CEO Justin McConnell, Indiecan founder Federgreen, Raven Banner managing partners Michael Paszt and James Fler, Rue Morgue president Rodrigo Gudino and editor-in-chief Dave Alexander, and Uncork’d founder Keith Leopard.
