Former teen idol Corey Haim has died at age 38, the victim of an apparent drug overdose. The Toronto-born actor — known for his run of films in the 1980s including Lucas and The Lost Boys — was according to reports found in his mother’s apartment in Oakwood, California early Wednesday and pronounced dead later that morning at a nearby hospital.
The cause of death is yet to be determined, pending an autopsy report.
Haim re-teamed with his Lost Boys co-star and fellow ’80s sensation Corey Feldman in 2007 for The Two Coreys, a reality show that nodded to the former’s battle with substance abuse.
Kirk Shaw of Vancouver’s Insight Film Studios on Wednesday recalled working with the star during his return to the spotlight. ‘Corey’s internal struggles allowed him to create some very memorable moments on screen,’ said Shaw in a statement, ‘but for Corey the cost of looking inside for character motivation might just have reflected too closely how he dealt with his life off screen.’
Haim’s early career included a recurring role on the CBC series The Edison Twins.
