* Attention ladies: Brad Pitt is spending the summer in and around Calgary and Edmonton shooting the new Ridley and Tony Scott-produced Warner Bros. Western feature The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Pitt’s last appearance in Alberta was in 1993 for the filming of Legends of the Fall. Andrew Dominik will direct the adaptation of the Ron Hansen novel. Preproduction begins this month.
* The Disney Channel has bought This Is Daniel Cook and added the preschooler series by marblemedia and Sinking Ship Productions to its weekday morning schedule. Daniel Cook recently won three ACT Awards, including best program, and is distributed by Picture Box Television.
* The thriller Show Me, from the Canadian Film Centre’s Feature Film Project and director Cassandra Nicolaou, has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Wolfe Releasing (Brother to Brother, Girl Play). It is due in theaters by late summer, with DVD release to follow.
* Producers Barry Levinson and Frédéric Golchan have bought the U.S. remake rights to La Peau blanche, Daniel Roby’s 2004 adaptation of the novel by Joël Champetier.
