CFC names Payback Awards winners

Nick Haight was one of three winners announced at the CFC's Short Dramatic Film Showcase.

The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) has named the recipients of the 2016 Payback Awards, with DOP Nick Haight, production designer Erika Lobko and production assistant Jennifer Anderson picking up the prizes.

The awards, which recognize outstanding individual contributions to CFC productions, were presented at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto on Tuesday night as part of the CFC’s Short Dramatic Film Showcase. The Payback Awards were established more than 20 years ago, and have been sponsored by Playback for the past 16 years.

Anderson was recognized for her work as a production assistant on two CFC short films: Cleo and The DoorCleo, about a woman who makes an unexpected connection when she ventures into an unfamiliar part of town, is written and directed by Sanja Zivkovic, while The Door is directed by Reem Morsi and co-written by Kaveh Mohebbi and Morsi.

Lobko meanwhile served as a production designer on The Imposter, which is directed by Adam Goldhammer and written by Molly McGlynn and Katie McMillan. The film tells the story of a teenager who investigates her mother’s strange behaviour in the aftermath of her father’s disappearance.

Haight served as director of photography on the Olivier Sabino-directed short Perfect. The film, which centres on the the story of one twin sister as she tries to create a unique identity for herself, is written by Kaveh Mohebbi and Olivier Sabino.
