16 months in 10 minutes

Docmaker Andrew Stewart is partway through a time-lapse shoot in Oshawa, ON, and, roughly a year from now, will boil the 16-month build of the city’s new sports arena to a 10- or 20-minute short, to be screened at the center’s grand opening and, it is hoped, on the festival circuit.

Stewart likens the digital film to 2½ Years in 2½ Minutes, a time-lapse that followed construction of Toronto’s SkyDome in the late 1980s. The untitled Oshawa project will include some blue screen and compositing, he says.

The project is backed by the city, the Oshawa Generals hockey team, Giffels Architects and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. Sean Davidson
