Vancouver: Sepia Films and U.S.-based Landslide Pictures will this month wrap the feature Civic Duty, ending a three-week stay in B.C. The psychological thriller stars Peter Krause (Six Feet Under) as a man who is obsessed with terrorist plots and whose new neighbor is an Islamic grad student, played by Egyptian star Abol Naga.
The pic, by first-time writer and producer Andrew Joiner, is being billed as a sort of Rear Window for the post-9/11 world, says producer Kim Roberts.
The producers are looking for a distributor, but already have a broadcast deal in place with Movie Central and will deliver early next year, after editing by director Jeff Renfroe (One Point O). It is expected to air sometime in 2007.
Krause exec produces with Landslide’s Andrew Lanter (Deluxe Combo Platter) and Elisha Rothman and Sepia’s Vic Sarin. Tina Pehme, also of Sepia, produces with Roberts, Joiner and Kelly Duncan.
Sepia recently wrapped its period drama Partition after two months in India, and will shoot A Shine of Rainbows next year in Scotland with partner Open Eye Productions.
Rainbows is a family drama, says Roberts, ‘in the spirit of Whale Rider.’ Casting is now underway.
