French distributor LaBelle Company has acquired the French distribution rights to Nathan Morlando’s Mean Dreams.

The coming-of-age drama, shot in Sault Ste, Marie in October 2015, made its world premiere in the Cannes Film Festival Directors’ Fortnight program.

In Canada the film is being distributed by Elevation Pictures.

The film stars Bill Paxton, Sophie Nélisse, Josh Wiggins, Colm Feore and Kevin Durand, and centres on the story of a 15-year-old who steals a large sum of drug money and runs away with a girl, whose policeman father attempts to hunt them down.

Mean Dreams is produced by William Woods of Toronto’s Woods Entertainment and Allison Black of Euclid 431, and is executive produced by Patrice Théroux, Jonathan Bronfman, Rob McGillivray, Ben Stranahan, Mark Gingras, Andre Bharti and Tom Spriggs.

On Sunday, First Weekend Club tweeted a short video of the film receiving a standing ovation following the world-premiere screening.
