CSI edges out Superbowl

The latest BBM numbers show Global with two shows in the top five — thanks to the Superbowl Sunday on Feb. 4 and the debut of Deal or No Deal Canada that followed. But CTV’s CSI still has the highest numbers for a series, followed by the juggernaut, American Idol, according to the national BBM/Nielsen numbers for Jan. 29 to Feb. 4. Other highlights include:

Monday: CTV Evening News (#10) won the night with 1.6 million viewers at 6 p.m., while the 10 p.m. timeslot went to the net’s CSI: Miami (#11). Global’s Prison Break (#12) beat CTV’s Corner Gas (#13) again in the 8 p.m. time slot, but only by a few thousand viewers. Global’s Heroes (#17) won the 9 p.m. timeslot with an audience of 1.466 million. Global’s 24 (#30) came in last, with less than a million viewers at 10 p.m..

Tuesday: CTV’s American Idol stayed at third place on the Top 30 with slightly more than three million viewers in the 8 p.m. timeslot. The closest contender for those numbers was Global’s House (#6), which pulled in 2.6 million to steal the 9 p.m. timeslot. CTV took the 10 p.m. timeslot with Law & Order: SVU, clocking 1.3 million.

Wednesday: CTV’s American Idol (#4) took Wednesday night’s 9 p.m. timeslot with 2.7 million viewers. The net’s CSI: NY (#9) measured 1.7 million, winning the 10 p.m. timeslot. Global’s Bones (#19) won at 8 p.m. with 1.4 million, and the closest rival for that timeslot was CBC with Little Mosque on the Prairie (#25).

Thursday: Thursday’s 9 p.m. timeslot may as well be renamed CSI (#1), which measured 3,454,000 viewers — an increase of more than 100,000 over the previous week’s Top 30. Global’s Grey’s Anatomy (#7) took the 8 p.m. timeslot for CTV. At 10 p.m., the most viewers tuned in to the net’s ER, which attracted 1.7 million, and Global’s closest contender for that period was Shark (#23), which got 1.1 million.

Friday: CTV Evening News (#10) won the top Friday night audience at 6 p.m., with 1.6 million, consistent with the previous week. At 8 p.m., the net’s Ghost Whisperer (#18) took the time slot with 1.4 million. At 9 p.m., Law and Order (#26) won for CTV with slightly more than a million. CTV’s Law & Order (#16) took the 10 p.m. time slot with 1.5 million viewers (up from under 1.1 million the previous week), although Global’s Numb3Rs raked in just over one million in that period.

Saturday: CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada (#15) earned the highest audiences, airing from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.. The net’s numbers measured 1.499 million viewers, up from 1.3 million the previous week.

Sunday: And the Super Bowl (#2). At 6 p.m., Global took over primetime with an average 3.397 million viewers. The net’s Canadian edition of Deal or No Deal (#5), after the Super Bowl, came second with 2.7 million viewers staying around after the game. CTV’s closest contender was Criminal Minds (#14), with 1.5 million at 10 p.m..
