Production has started on Cardinal, the debut feature film from directors Grayson Moore and Aidan Shipley, whose dramatic short Boxing premiered at TIFF in 2015.
The thriller is produced by Marianna Margaret and Kristy Neville, and executive produced by How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town‘s Chris Bennett and Touchpoint Films’ Kevin Saffer.
The micro-budget film, which received funding through Telefilm’s Micro-Budget Production Program, stars veteran Canadian actress Sheila McCarthy, Noah Reid (Kevin from Work, Score: A Hockey Musical), Katie Boland (Born to be Blue, Gerontophilia) and Grace Glowicki (The Oxbow Cure), who received the Sundance Film Festival Short Film Special Jury Award for Outstanding Performance this year for her role in Her Friend Adam.
Cardinal revolves around Valerie Walker (McCarthy), a woman who faked a drunk driving accident to kill a man who committed a horrible crime. After serving her prison sentence, she returns home to spend time with her family when Mark (Noah Reid), the son of the man she killed, shows up.
Cardinal will shoot in Stratford, Kitchener, Cambridge and Barrie, Ont. until April 17. It’s produced with the financial participation of Telefilm Canada, in association with Touchpoint Films and Dazmo Camera.
