Canadian doc Hip-Hop Evolution will get its world bow at this year’s Hot Docs film festival in the Special Presentations program, it was announced Tuesday.

The documentary is directed by Darby Wheeler, with Scot McFayden and Sam Dunn serving as co-directors. Hip-Hop Evolution follows Canadian rapper and q host Shad as he travels to the Bronx and Harlem to meet with some of hip hop’s biggest stars and originators, such as Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa, in an effort to trace the genre’s growth over the years. The doc is produced by Toronto’s Banger Films.

Other documentaries having their world premiere in the program include Brendan Byrne’s Bobby Sands: 66 Days (Ireland/U.K.), Jerry Rothwell’s Sour Grapes (USA/France) and Jared P. Scott’s The Age of Consequences (USA).

This is the second programming announcement from Hot Docs for the 2016 festival. Canadian titles previously added to the festival’s lineup include Kevin McMahon’s Spaceship Earth and Daniel Cross’ I Am the Blues makes its Canadian premiere.

The full Hot Docs lineup will be revealed on March 22.
