The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Italian Directorate General for Cinema of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism (DGC – MiBACT) have announced the six projects that have received development financing through its $200,000 doc fund.
To be eligible for the Canada-Italy Codevelopment Incentive for Documentary Projects program, projects had to be a one-off documentary intended for broadcast by a Canadian broadcaster, and involve at least one Canadian and one Italian producer. Both the CMF and DGC – MiBACT will contribute $100,000 to the fund.
The six projects selected to receive funding include: A Life Beyond Earth from Canada’s Foundry Films and Italy’s Matrioska SRL (with the CMF contributing $5,000 and MiBACT $9,310); Forestieri – Macaroni mon voisin from Canada’s Films du Rapide-Blanc and Dream Film SRL – Ila Palma (CMF: $11,000, MiBACT: $23,940) and In the Name of Gerry Conlon from Canada’s Gearshift Films and Italian prodco Nightswim SRL (CMF: $12,500, MiBACT: $23,940).
Striking an Unlikely Chord from Canada’s Tell Tale Productions and Italy’s GA&A Productions SRL (CMF: $30,400, MiBACT: $10,640), The Philosopher Gastronaut from Canada’s Animoralda Media and Itlay’s FilmWorks SRL (CMF: $33,600, MiBACT: $7,980), and The Revolving Door from Canada’s Open Door and Italy’s Moliwood Films SRL (CMF: $7,500, MiBACT $23,940) also received funding.
The fund was launched in April 2015 at the Hot Docs festival in Toronto, with projects being evaluated by representatives from both funding organizations.
