Boutique distributor D Films has closed a DVD distribution deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Canada for a number of its titles, the companies announced on Monday.
First out of the gate under the new agreement will be the British-made bio Creation — which opened last year’s TIFF — the Norwegian box-office hit Max Manus and Winnipeg director Gary Yates’ heist film High Life.
The multi-year deal, which can be expanded upon, was negotiated by D Films president Jim Sherry and Sony’s Derrick Forster and Stuart Segal.
‘We are always looking for high quality motion pictures that we can distribute locally,’ commented Forster in a statement, adding that the agreement gives Sony ‘a selection of product that we think will perform well in the Canadian home entertainment market.’
D Films will release Max Manus in theaters on Friday. It also has the Iranian drama Tehroun set for in May. The film by France’s Nader T. Homayoun follows three men accused of trafficking new-born babies and their chilling journey into Tehran.
D Films will also release the family-aimed Sophie and the action drama A Million Colours in the fall. Both are currently in production.
