Yowza crafts dinosaurs

Toronto – The live-action shoot of DinoSapien wraps early this month, but the CG will continue well into next year as Yowza Digital Animation inserts dinosaurs into the 15 x 30 tween adventure series.

The show follows a young girl, played by Brittney Wilson (Romeo!), who befriends an intelligent dinosaur, and is a copro by BBC Worldwide, CCI Entertainment and Alberta Filmworks. It is set to air next year on Discovery Kids, BBC Kids Canada and, later, the BBC.

CG will continue at Yowza (Osmosis Jones, Eight Crazy Nights) until next summer, with a team of about 20, led by animation director Marc Lougee, using Maya, Combustion, ZBrush and Turtle. The Toronto shop also had three people on set during the shoot in Drumheller, AB, working on storyboards.

‘These things have really got to stick to the film,’ says Yowza exec Pete Denomme. ‘If you’re doing a show with dinosaurs they’d better be pretty good.’
