Breakthrough Entertainment’s Blood and Water and Mark Media’s doc Smoke Screen are among the projects that have been awarded financing via the Canada Media Fund’s Diverse Language Program stream.
The Diverse Language Program supports projects produced in languages other than French, English or Aboriginal languages, with a total of 10 projects backed by the CMF in this latest round. Blood and Water, which is currently airing on Rogers Media’s OMNI channel, received $200,000 in funding. The crime drama is shown in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
The Mandarin-language Smoke Screen picked up $168,560 in funding, with its digital media component awarded $100,000. A second Mark Media project, Miaomiao, was backed by a $168,853 investment, with its complementary video player app receiving $100,000.
New Real Film and Video’s Mandarin-language drama Big Shorts received $169,039 in funding, with its corresponding web series receiving $100,000. New Real Film also received $168,952 for its Mandarin-language drama News Detox, along with a $100,000 investment for the series’ digital media component.
The preschool Spanish series Mi nombre es Ripley, from Telelatino Network, picked up $200,000 in funding, with its digital media component receiving $100,000. Other Telelatino productions that received funding include the one-hour, Spanish-language documentary Perseguidos ($116,833 for production, $100,000 for digital media) and the Italian-language Sbarco a Ellis doc ($91,790 for production, $45,895 for digital media).
