Two NFB films among Oscars animated shorts list

Shorts from directors Claude Cloutier and Cordell Barker were named to the 10-film list.

The 2015 Oscars list for animated short films has been whittled down from 60 to 10 and two NFB films are still standing: Claude Cloutier’s Carface (Autos Portraits) and Cordell Barker’s If I Was God….

Carface, produced by the NFB’s Julie Roy, is an animated musical comedy which satirizes the American ballad “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be).”

If I Was God… is produced by the NFB’s Michael Fukushima and David Christensen and tells the story of a Grade 7 boy who begins to day dream about his power to toy with life and death while dissecting a frog in Biology class.

The other shorts on the 10-film list include Melissa Johnson and Robertino Zambrano’s Love in the Time of March Madness, Phuong Mai Nguyen’s My Home, Gabriel Osorio’s Bear Story, Sanjay Patel’s Sanjay’s Super Team and Seth Boyden’s An Object at Rest.

The remaining 10 films on the short list will next be trimmed down to five official Oscar nominations by the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members committee. The winner will be announced at the 88th 88th Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016.
