For broadcasters from Scandinavia and Indonesia to Japan and South Africa, Toronto post-production house Deluxe Sound & Picture handles all the international delivery requirements for all three CSI dramas – each sold to over 200 territories.
Deluxe, on behalf of Alliance Atlantis – which coproduces the franchise with CBS – not only carries out technical evaluations of the episodes once they’re finished post-production, but also performs conversions and prepares HD requirements before packaging and shipping copies off to various international broadcasters.
‘We’re the technology bridge between the people who own the content and the people they sell it to,’ says Dan McLellan, Deluxe executive VP and GM.
In addition, Deluxe holds, at two Toronto locations, roughly 6,000 master copies of episodes from all three CSIs, in various formats, standards and languages.
The copies are stored in a vault that is humidity and temperature controlled, and, according to McLellan, very secure.
‘You can’t just walk in and help yourself,’ he says. ‘Doing high-end technical work in HD is one thing, but not losing somebody’s tape is probably even more important.’
