Anthony Grieco wins Nicholl Fellowship for screenwriting

Grieco has been selected as one of five winners of the 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition.

shutterstock_script_screenplayAnthony Grieco has been selected as one of five winners of the 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition. The Canadian screenwriter won the fellowship for his project Best Sellers.

Grieco, who is based in L.A., is joined by Elizabeth Chomko (What They Had), Andrew Friedhof, (Great Falls), Sam Regnier, (Free Agent) and Amy Tofte (Addis Abeka) in collecting a $35,000 prize, a portion of which will be presented at an award ceremony at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Nov. 4. Selected scenes from the winning scripts will also be read at the presentation.

Another project of Grieco’s, Made In Italy received funding from Harold Greenberg Fund’s Script Development Program in 2013. Winnipeg-based prodco Buffalo Gals are attached as producers on the romantic comedy, with Jonathan Sobol directing. Grieco is also the co-author of screenwriting instructional guide, Pocket Screenwriting Guide: 120 Tips for Getting to FADE OUT.

The Academy received 7,442 script submissions for this year’s competition, with the winners being selected by the Academy Nicholl Fellowships Committee.

Now in its 30th year, the Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition aims to encourage and discover emerging screenwriting talent. The winners will produce a completed feature-length screenplay during their fellowship year.
