The presence of Kelly Rowan paid off again for CTV and Shaftesbury Films on Tuesday, when 1.6 million viewers watched the former star of The O.C. play a woman trapped in a polygamous marriage in In God’s Country.
The two-hour MOW aired at 9 p.m., beating Global’s medical drama House, which generated 1.2 million viewers, and the NHL All-Star Skills competition, which delivered just over one million viewers to CBC. It stands as the net’s second highest-rated MOW ever, after last year’s Eight Days to Live, which starred Rowan as a mother searching for her missing son. It pulled in two million viewers and was also produced by Shaftesbury.
Female-aimed drama did not play quite as well at CBC, which aired the two-hour TV movie The Robber Bride – based on a Margaret Atwood novel and starring Mary-Louise Parker and Wendy Crewson – to 535,000 viewers on Sunday at 8 p.m. ‘We’re pleased with that number,’ says CBC spokesman Jeff Keay.
Meanwhile, CTV’s Corner Gas, currently in its fourth season, shows no sign of slowing down and grabbed 1.5 million viewers Monday night at 8 p.m. The episode entitled ‘Mother’s Day’ beat out Global’s Prison Break, which marked its return from hiatus that night with a strong 1.4 million viewers. The sci-fi drama Heroes remains a ratings staple, generating 1.3 million viewers for Global at 9 p.m., beating out an encore episode of Criminal Minds on CTV, which brought in 1.1 million viewers.
