Super Bowl grabs 3.4 million

Global Television raked in 3.4 million viewers for Super Bowl Sunday, and, as expected, stomped the other Sunday night programming on Feb. 4, though audiences were down from last year. The big game – which saw the Indianapolis Colts defeat the Chicago Bears 29-17 – did slightly better in 2006, when it drew 3.9 million for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Super Bowl drew 1.7 million in the key demographic of adults 18-49 and was the most-watched broadcast in that demo for the week in Toronto.

The net’s much-anticipated premiere of Deal or No Deal Canada, using Super Bowl XLI as a lead-in, kept 2.7 million viewers on average, with peaks of 3.1 million. The Howie Mandel machine stomped CTV’s super-Sunday episode of Criminal Minds by 67% nationally and 107% in the adults 18-49 demo.
