The Jane Show back on Global

Global’s sitcom The Jane Show is back for a second run, and returns to the net on Feb. 7, stepping into the Wednesday 10 p.m. slot previously held by the first half of its U.S. import Kidnapped, which has been cancelled.

The second season of the series by Shaftesbury Films sees Nigel Shawn Williams, who played a recurring character last year as a warehouse worker, join the regular cast. The Jane Show will air 13 episodes opposite The National on CBC and CSI: NY on CTV.

TSN selling for ESPN

TSN is selling ads on ESPN.com, following a deal announced Jan. 29 that allows the sportscaster to sell space on its U.S. counterpart. TSN will sell to Canadian advertisers, providing ads that are set up to appear only to Canuck readers.

‘Including ESPN.com as part of the TSN family provides our clients with a unique opportunity to grow and extend their brands,’ said TSN president Phil King in a release.

ESPN.com reaches about 1.3 million readers per month in Canada, while TSN.ca draws 2.3 million, according to Media Metrix.

Much signs with Amp’d

MuchMusic has signed a deal with Amp’d Mobile that will see the youth-aimed U.S. cell phone carrier run video-on-demand, live video and other content from the Much line of channels.

Amp’d will stream live video from MuchMusic, MuchVibe and MuchRetro, plus original shows including Intimate & Interactive and Live@Much, under the terms of the exclusive, two-year deal starting in March.

TQS program did not discriminate, says watchdog

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has cleared the TQS program L’Avocat et le diable of religious discrimination, following an investigation into an on-air talk about the rights of ethnic groups.

The program came under fire following a May 9, 2006 episode in which callers uttered slurs and other negative comments against Muslims – prompting a number of complaints from viewers.

The CBSC’s Quebec board noted that remarks by one caller in particular, though ‘ugly,’ were quickly countered by cohosts Stéphane Gendron and Richard Desmarais.
