Just For Laughs acquires Cloe

Montreal-based Just For Laughs has secured the U.S. distribution rights for the new animated series My Adventures with Cloe from New Brunswick’s Fatkat Animation Studios.

‘We just thought it was a nutty, offbeat comedy that fits into what we’re looking for,’ JFL head of international television sales Christos Sourligas tells Playback Daily.

My Adventures with Cloe, about a lonely eight-year-old boy’s friendship with a quirky sea monster from Brooklyn, currently exists as an 11-minute pilot, with a 26 x 22 series in the works.

Sourligas says they’re hoping the series pilot, broadcast on justforlaughs.tv, will initiate good word-of-mouth before they shop Cloe to U.S. networks.

‘We’re looking for a presale before Fatkat produces the series,’ he says, adding that JFL and Fatkat are also in talks for a new comedy live-action series.

Armed with 60 full-time staff, Fatkat has worked on notable toon projects including Happy Tree Friends, Family Guy, Odd Job Jack and Caillou.

Fatkat is based in Miramichi, NB.
