C.R.A.Z.Y. on DVD, yet again

A ‘collectors edition’ box set of C.R.A.Z.Y. — the feature’s third home-video release – arrived in stores Tuesday from TVA Films. And this time, it’s completely subtitled.

The latest DVD follows a glitched release last spring, which saw the hit Quebec film arrive on shelves in English Canada without subtitles for bonus features, after which director and cowriter Jean-Marc Vallée became involved.

‘I wasn’t happy about what happened with the [first English] DVD,’ Vallée told Playback at the time. The film’s first DVD version was released in Quebec in 2005.

The new box’s first disc has a digitally remastered edition accompanied by a photo booklet. The second disc contains two hours of bonus features, including featurettes about the cast and crew, auditions and filming in Morocco. The film follows a boy coming of age in 1970s Quebec, and took in 48 awards worldwide and $6.3 million at the Canadian box office. It was voted the best Canadian film in 20 years by Playback readers.
