Deepa Mehta’s Beeba Boys, Patricia Rozema’s Into the Forest and John Crowley’s Brooklyn are among the films that will screen at the Vancouver International Film Festival in gala presentations, it was announced Tuesday, as the festival added 16 new titles to the lineup.
Brooklyn, a UK/Ireland/Canada coproduction, will open VIFF in a gala presentation, with Marc Abraham’s I Saw The Light (USA) set to close the festival. Philippe Falardeau’s My Internship in Canada will open the Canadian Images program, while Into the Forest will screen at the BC Spotlight awards gala. Mehta’s Beeba Boys will screen in a spotlight gala at the festival.
In the Canadian Images program, special presentations include Paul Gross’ Hyena Road and Atom Egoyan’s Remember. The special presentations program will include screenings of the Canadian doc This Changes Everything from Avi Lewis, Lenny Abrahamson’s Room (Ireland/Canada/UK), Miguel Gomes’ Arabian Nights (Portugal), Jacques Audiard’s Dheepan (France), Ben Wheatley’s High-Rise (UK), Joachim Trier’s Louder Than Bombs (USA/France), Mabel Cheung’s A Tale of Three Cities (Hong Kong/China) and the Canadian premiere of Stig Bjorkman’s Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words (Sweden).
The 34th edition of the Vancouver International Film Festival will run from Sept. 24 to Oct. 9.
