Raam Reddy’s Thithi, an India/Canada/U.S. coproduction, has picked up awards in two categories at the 68^th edition of the Locarno International Film Festival.

In the Concorso Cineasti del presente category, the feature won the Premio Nescens prize (for the first or second films from a filmmaker), while in the First Feature category it won the Swatch First Feature Award.

The film, coproduced by Toronto’s Vigilante Films and Six Island Productions, tells the story of how three generations of sons deal with the death of the 101-year-old family patriarch Century Gowda. The stories of the men begin to overlap and finally become one when the three attend Gowda’s “Thithi,” the funeral ceremony held 11 days after a person’s death. Bangalore-based Prspctvs Productions produced the feature.

Other films to win prizes at the Swiss festival include South Korean Hong Sansoo’s Jigeumun Matgo Geuttaeneun Teullida (“Right Now, Wrong Then”), which won the Pardo d’oro prize and Avishai Sivan’s Tikkun, from Israel, claimed the Special Jury Prize. Both prizes were awarded in the Concorso internazionale category, which also saw France/Portugal copro Cosmos win the best direction prize for filmmaker Andrzej Zulawski.

The Locarno International Film Festival is held in the Swiss town of Locarno. The 68^th edition of the festival ran from Aug. 5 to 15.
