Entertainment One (eOne) Television and Universal Cable Productions (UCP) have pacted to develop a one-hour drama for Syfy based on Frederick Pohl’s novel Gateway.
Pohl’s Gateway focuses on humanity’s encounter with a mysterious and ancient alien civilization. David Eick (Battlestar Galactica) and Josh Pate (Falling Skies) collaborated on the TV adaptation of the novel and will serve as executive producers on the potential series.
Eick, who will showrun, will revise a pilot initially penned by Pate.
Other executive producers on the project include Martha De Laurentiis of the De Laurentiis Company, former eOne TV exec Michael Rosenberg and Lorenzo De Maio. Gerard Bocaccio, SVP of U.S. scripted development at eOne TV, will oversee the series for the studio.
The Gateway novel was first published in 1977 by St. Martin’s Press and has won a number of science fiction-related awards, including the Hugo Award for best novel and the Nebula award for best novel.
