Muse joins with Just For Laughs

Muse Entertainment has again linked arms with Just For Laughs, and on Monday unveiled a new joint effort to turn out TV and feature comedies.

Muse VP Jesse Prupas and Evi Regev — noted for Just For Laughs stage shows including Family Guy Live and Evil Dead: The Musical — will head development of projects at the new company, Just For Laughs Muse Comedy Productions. They will make scripted comedies starting, it seems, with O’Cannabis, a feature about life in Canada following the legalization of marijuana.

‘We pride ourselves on pushing the envelope and this partnership will be no exception,’ said Just For Laughs president Gilbert Rozon in a statement.

The Montreal companies have worked well together in the past, having teamed with Adjacent 2 Entertainment on the well-received mock-doc series The Tournament for two seasons on CBC. Though cancelled at home, U.S. and U.K. versions of the show are in development at Warner Bros. Television and the BBC.

O’Cannabis is in the script stage, according to a Muse spokesperson, and the company has two series in outline. Prupas and Just For Laughs COO Bruce Hills are expected in Toronto on Tuesday to meet with broadcasters.
