Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm has posted the trailer for L’Âge des ténèbres on its website, providing the first, albeit brief, glimpse of the next film by Denys Arcand, which is due to appear in Quebec theaters in May.
The film — the title of which translates to The Dark Age — follows Arcand’s 2003 Oscar-winner Les invasions barbares, itself a sequel to his 1986 breakthrough Le déclin de l’empire américain. The new movie chronicles a man (Marc Labrèche of Monica la mitraille) trapped in an unhappy marriage and job. The press-shy director has said little about the French-language film, which shot last year in Montreal under his wife/producer Denise Robert. It also stars Diane Kruger and Pierre Curzi.
The 50-second trailer can be seen at www.vivafilm.com. Alliance is reportedly looking to debut the picture at Cannes, followed by a rollout in Quebec and a possible screening at the Toronto International Film Festival.
