DGC Awards nominees unveiled

camera filming The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has announced the names and projects nominated for its 2015 DGC Awards.

The nominees for the awards, which recognize excellence in screen production, were selected from more than 250 submissions.

The nominees for Best Feature Film are Corner Gas: The Movie, Elephant Song, Mommy, Relative Happiness, while Bomb Girls: Facing The Enemy, Kept Woman, The Book of Negroes, Episode 1, Trigger Point were nominated in the Best Television Movie-Mini-Series category.

In the best TV drama category, 19-2, Orphan Black, The Pinkertons and Vikings are up for awards.

In the Best Television Series – Family category, Degrassi picked up three of the four nominations for the episodes “There’s Your Trouble”, “Firestarter Part 1”, and “Give Me One Reason” from its fourteenth season. Open Heart was the other nominee in the category for the episode “Last Things First.”

Nominees for best direction in a feature film are Charles Binamé (Elephant Song), Terrance Odette (Fall), Jason Stone(The Calling) and Jacob Tierney (Preggoland). The best television movie/mini-series direction nominees are Tristan Dubois  (Forget and Forgive) Philippe Gagnon (The Good Sister), Adam Kane (High Moon) and Clement Virgo (The Book of Negroes). The best television series nominees are John Fawcett (Orphan Black), Podz  (19-2), Helen Shaver (Orphan Black), and Kari Skogland  (Vikings).

Films nominated in the Best Short Film category are Made in Bali, The Day Santa Didn’t Come, The Underground and Vox.

Elsewhere, Schitt’s Creek picked up two nominations in the Best Television Series – Comedy category. Spun Out, Trailer Park Boys and Working The Engels also received nods in the category.

Nominations for the Allan King Award For Excellence in Documentary went to Monsoon, Shameless Propaganda, Super Duper Alice Cooper and The Boy From Geita. A full list of nominees, including those in the best picture editing and best production design categories, can be found here.

The winning nominees will be presented with their awards at the DGC Awards Gala on Saturday, Oct. 24, to be held at The Carlu in Toronto.
