The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has named the recipients of three special awards for outstanding contributions to Canadian screen production.

This year’s winners – chosen during a spring-time meeting of the DGC’s National Executive Board in Calgary – were David Cronenberg (DGC Lifetime Achievement Award), Mark Reid (The Don Haldane Distinguished Service Award) and Peter Leitch (The Honourary Life Member Award).

The awards will be formally presented at the DGC Awards Gala on Oct. 24.

Iconic Canadian writer-director Cronenberg’s credits include The Fly, Naked Lunch, Shivers, Eastern Promises and more recently, Maps to the Stars. A pioneer in the cult-horror genre, he was awarded the Carrosse d’Or lifetime achievement awards at Cannes Film Festival in 2006.

The Don Haldane award was given to Mark Reid in recognition of his service to the membership of the DGC. Reid is a producer and production manager whose credits include Really Me, Hannibal, Life With Boys, Satisfaction, The LA Complex and Max and Shred. He has been a member of the DGC for 16 years and in 2004 was made the founding chair of the DGC’s Health and Welfare Trust.

Leitch, president of North Shore Studios and Mammoth Studios, was awarded the Honourary Life Member award for his positive effect on the guild and its members. In addition, he serves as Chair of the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of British Columbia.
