Nickelodeon brings Teletubbies reboot stateside

DHX Media has licensed the exclusive U.S. broadcast and on-demand rights for the upcoming reboot to Nickelodeon.

The upcoming Teletubbies reboot is headed to the U.S., thanks to a new deal between DHX Media and Nickelodeon that sees the kidcaster pick up the exclusive U.S. broadcast and on-demand rights for the preschool show.

Along with securing the rights to air the new 60 x 12-minute series on its Nick Jr. channel, Nickelodeon also scooped up all 365 eps of the original Teletubbies series for Noggin, its new preschool-focused mobile subscription service.

Slated to debut on Nickelodeon in 2016, the rebooted Teletubbies is also set to air on U.K. pubcaster CBeebies this fall. The new comes just one week after DHX Television’s Family Junior was named the Canadian broadcaster for the show and Toronto-based Spin Master signed on to distribute new Teletubbies toys from master toy partner Character Options.

Teletubbies-brand owner DHX Media has engaged U.K. prodco Darrall Macqueen to produce the series, which was commissioned by CBeebies and will feature the same classic characters with a contemporary CGI-look.
