Double noms for Trafficking, Business

MONTREAL — Twenty performers are up for this year’s Montreal ACTRA awards, which on Wednesday gave dual nods to cast members of both the 2005 mini Human Trafficking and the IFC comedy The Business.

Isabelle Blais and Laurence Leboeuf are both up for best female performance their roles in Human Trafficking, and will face Ellen David for her work on The Business. David’s costar Nobuya Shimamoto, meanwhile, is up for best male performance along with Alain Goulem of The Tournament and Stephane Demers for his role in Trudeau 2: Maverick in the Making.

Daniel Brochu (Postcards From Buster), Holly Gauthier-Frankel (Monster Allergy) and Bruce Dinsmore (What’s With Andy?) are all up for outstanding vocal performance. Stuntman Patrick Kerton has also been nominated for his performance in the smash action flick Bon Cop, Bad Cop, along with fall guys from 10.5 Apocalypse and The Covenant, among others.

In addition to its four juried performance awards, ACTRA Montreal’s 2007 award of excellence will be presented to Walter Massey (Un zoo la nuit, Dr. Norman Bethune). Arden Ryshpan, executive in charge of director’s affairs at the DGC, will receive this year’s Community Builder Award.

‘Last year’s awards show was a tremendous success and we expect to capture the same spirited energy and enormous sense of pride with the event in June,’ said Don Jordan, president of ACTRA Montreal, in a statement released Wednesday.

ACTRA represents more than 21,000 professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. The ACTRA Awards in Montreal recognize outstanding performances by union members living in Montreal. The ceremony takes place on June 9.
