CTV and CH push reality

CTV and CH have reworked their schedules for summer with a mix of mostly drama and reality, including the return of Canadian Idol and Instant Star on the former, while the latter is hyping The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency and the dirty cop drama The Shield.

CH, which becomes E! in September, is borrowing the Janice Dickinson reality from its sister channel TVtropolis, along with the pop culture show Whatever Happened To?. Dickinson, in which the former model builds her own agency, premieres May 28 at 10 p.m. ET, while Whatever makes its CH debut on June 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

CH will also run the sixth season of FX’s The Shield, with Anthony Chiklis as a rogue detective, starting May 29 at 10 p.m. – in the Tuesday slot previously held by Boston Legal. On the comedy front, the second season of the Fox series The Loop, starring Bret Harrison (Grounded For Life), debuts Sunday, June 10 at 9:30 p.m.

The CTV summer schedule, meanwhile, is bolstered by the return of its singing contest Canadian Idol on Tuesday, June 5, with a 90-minute audition episode, while the much-hyped reality series On the Lot, from Mark Burnett and Steven Spielberg, debuts Tuesday, May 22 at 9 p.m., taking over the slot from American Idol.

Also from Burnett, the reality Pirate Master, wherein 16 contestants search for hidden treasure, will kick off CTV’s Thursday lineup at 8 p.m. beginning May 31.

Instant Star, meanwhile, will air what’s left of its second season in May and June before moving onto its third run in July. The reality-flavored teen drama from Epitome Pictures got only partway through its second run last summer before it fell off the CTV grid. The remaining six episodes will run Sundays at 7:30 p.m. ET starting May 27. CTV says it will run the third season sometime in July, though a timeslot has not been specified.

Other titles on CTV this summer include the reality contest So You Think You Can Dance?, the tenth season of Comedy Now!, and the Concert for Diana special from London’s Wembley Stadium, airing on Canada Day.
