Traditionally, unless your actors speak French or your name is Sarah Polley, few Canadians will seek out your homegrown movie at the local multiplex, least of all during summer. And yet, Away from Her is standing up to Spidey, Shrek and Jack Sparrow, and Telefilm boss Wayne Clarkson thinks Canadian-mades could again break the 5% mark at the box office by the end of 2007. So we ask the regular, moviegoing public:
‘What was the last Canadian movie you paid to see?’
The Dark Hours [2005]. The film got a little incomprehensible at the end. When I see Canadian movies, I’m mostly disappointed. I’m looking forward to seeing Away from Her.

The last Canadian film I rented was C.R.A.Z.Y. last fall – awesome soundtrack and great story!

Bon Cop, Bad Cop [2006]. I thought that it was a very good movie, with some good hockey humor. I really like the fact that it was set in both Toronto and Montreal.

I went and saw Strange Brew [1983] a few months ago. I thought it was amazing – definitely one of the funniest Canadian films I have ever seen. It’s a classic… I originally saw the movie when I was eight. I liked it even more now, because I got more of the humor. I’m not an avid supporter of any specific type of cinema. If a film looks appealing, I’ll see it.

I really don’t recall… I did make a point of watching Mambo Italiano on the movie channel within the last few weeks. I was interested because of the actors in it and the ethnic content.
