Hot on the heels of a Peabody win for their film Human Harvest, Canadian prodcos Flying Cloud and Mark Media have announced a strategic partnership that will see the companies collaborate on several films over the course of the year.
Having found a formula that works for Human Harvest, the two prodcos already have an additional three documentaries and a scripted feature planned.
The partnership will be at the “production level, creative consultancy and also in screenwriting as well,” Jason Loftus, CEO and executive producer at Toronto-based Mark Media told Playback Daily, adding that the prodcos will share ownership of the projects
Loftus will executive produce The Bleeding Edge, which is currently in post-production, while Flying Cloud principal Leon Lee will be serving as an executive producer and creative consultant on the three documentaries. While still confidential, Loftus says there is a larger-budget dramatic feature on the horizon as well.
“We see an opportunity to support Leon with what he’s doing on the feature films side of things… and also for him to help us grow in our docs,” Loftus said. And while he noted that Asia is an important target for the products produced as part of the partnership, “it is just a part of a broader international and multi-language strategy,” Loftus said.
The partnership announcement comes on the heels of Mark Media’s merger with digital and interactive studio Mark Animation and factual-entertainment company Lucent Media in March.
Correction: In an earlier version of this story it was incorrectly indicated that Human Harvest screened at Hot Docs. The film did not screen at Hot Docs. Playback regrets the error.
