Corus Entertainment, parent company of Nelvana and the nation’s top kidscaster YTV, has posted a 9% gain over 2006 figures in its third-quarter revenues, bringing in sales of US$187.6 million.
Net income for the quarter was also up at US$28.1 million, compared to US$22 million for the same time period last year. Corus Television continues to contribute the lion’s share of revenues at the Toronto-based company, marking quarterly sales of US$103.6 million, up 9% from last year. Moreover, sales of Corus content were up an impressive 34% to US$13.8 million.
In other Corus news, its YTV.com and the non-profit Kids Internet Safety Alliance earlier this week launched Surf Smart, an online game that aims to teach kids — now on summer vacation and with more time for the net on their hands — how to stay safe while surfing.
Built into Sitekick, YTV’s popular online community-based game, Surf Smart kids get rewarded with collectible virtual chips when they read tips about online security and answer questions. The tips include navigating online privacy protection and how to guard against unwanted e-mails and instant messages.
