Hockey fans will be able to catch the Canada/Russia Super Series on TSN, its sister channel RDS and competitor Rogers Sportsnet, following a deal reached Friday.
TSN and Sportsnet will share games and combine resources on English-Canadian coverage of the eight-game junior hockey tournament, which gets underway Aug. 27. TSN will air games one, four, five and six, while Sportsnet will broadcast games two, three, seven and eight. RDS will cover the entire series in Quebec.
It’s the second time TSN, one of CTVglobemedia’s channels, and its rival Sportsnet have teamed up to cover a major sports event, following last year’s FIFA World Cup.
‘We are able to best serve Canadian viewers by teaming up and combining our resources to provide live coverage of all the games from this event,’ said TSN president Phil King in a release.
‘Once again the big winner is the sports fan, and that’s what this joint venture is all about,’ added Rogers Sportsnet president Doug Beeforth.
Sportsnet personality Peter Loubardias will provide play-by-play alongside TSN game analyst Pierre McGuire, while TSN’s Ryan Rishaug will handle rink-side reporting.
The Canada/Russia Super Series takes place Aug. 27 to Sept. 9, with the first four games played in Russia, while the final four move to Canada.
