Mlle Bottine selected to Cannes Juniors screenings

The French-language comedy is one of eight films selected for the 2025 edition of Cannes Écrans Juniors.

Montreal-based Yan Lanouette Turgeon’s French-language comedy Mlle Bottine (Attraction, Les Productions La Fête) is one of eight films selected to the 2025 edition of Cannes Écrans Juniors.

The selection of international feature films are meant to be of particular interest to audiences who are 13 or older. Mlle Bottine will screen at the festival on May 20.

Based on the 1986 film Bach et Bottine and written by Dominic James, Mlle Bottine stars newcomer Marguerite Laurence and Antoine Bertrand as an uncle and composer who takes after his niece following her grandmother’s death until a foster family is found.

The film is produced by James for his Les Productions La Fête and Antonello Cozzolino and Brigitte Léveillé for Attraction, with the financial support of SODEC, Telefilm Canada, the Quebecor Fund, Groupe TVA, Immina Films and Attraction Distribution. The film was shot from September to November 2023 in Montreal.

In February, Mlle Bottine surpassed $1.5 million at the Canadian box office after its theatrical release on Nov. 29, 2024.

A class from the André Capron College in Cannes will comprise the jury for the junior selections, supervised by French writer-director Claire Vassé.
