Heather Shaw, Corus founding executive chair, to retire

Shaw has served in the post since the company’s inception and will continue in a non-executive role.

Corus Entertainment announced Thursday (April 17) that Heather Shaw, the company’s founding executive chair, will be retiring from her position effective May 31.

Shaw, whose board leadership has spanned 26 years since Corus’ inception in September 1999, will remain on the board of directors as a non-executive chair.

“Heather has been an important part of Corus’ history, helping to steward the company through significant milestones and an ever-changing industry,” said Troy Reeb, Corus’ co-CEO, in a statement. “We are appreciative of her commitment to Corus and of her long career in media leadership.”

Fern Belisle, co-chair of Corus’ human resources and governance committee, added: “On behalf of our Board of Directors, I want to thank Heather for her many contributions to the Board and to Corus over the past 26 years. While we wish her all the best on her retirement as executive chair, we look forward to continuing to serve together on the Board.”

A spokesperson from Corus told Playback Daily that the former Shaw Communications director will be the organization’s last executive chair, and she will not be replaced upon her retirement on May 31.

Beyond Corus, Shaw maintains roles with Calgary-based philanthropic organizations the Shaw Family Foundation and The Shawana Foundation.
